MERINO WOOL PATAGONIA

LE MOUTON VERT  is dedicated to create design and manufacture of textiles through a local raw material, from our area and southern location: "100% Merino sheep wool", this is noble, pure and renewable, giving added value, seal of quality and seal of origin, being pioneers in its use and confection at a regional and national level in a sustainable and organic way.

Our wool comes from a local Estancia called "La Península" committed to responsible livestock, animal care, pasture regeneration and biodiversity. The estancia has around 3.000 sheep and the breed with which it works is the Merino Multiuso (MPM), a breed originally from Spain, then domesticated in New Zealand and Australia. The Merino sheep is in our locality, in the Austral Patagonia, because of the good extreme climatic conditions that exist in these latitudes.

The wool fiber of Merino sheep, is the finest, soft and white than any other breed of sheep, it has great elasticity and lanolin, natural wax with excellent properties.

Once the shearing is done, the wool washing and spinning process is started in a delicate and responsible way, using biodegradable products of the best quality, to better maintain the properties of the wool, without using chemicals or acids for its treaty.

After being dried, we go through the spinning process, which is done by handicraft machines, to continue with the making, handmade by ourselves, working with local women weavers, presenting creative lines of design in: Fashion Textile and Textile Home Decoration.

Properties of LANA MERINO from Patagonia:

It's natural:
Merino sheep graze in the free fields of our southern Patagonia, without agrochemicals, since they consume water from springs, pure air, sun and natural grass.

It is Biodegradable:
When Merino fiber is removed, it breaks down naturally in the soil, releasing valuable nutrients into the soil.

Renewable:
Every year, Merino sheep produce a new fleece, making Merino wool a completely renewable source of fiber.

Breathable:
Merino wool fibers can absorb large amounts of moisture vapor and then push it away to evaporate into the air. So Merino wool clothing is extremely breathable and less prone to stickiness.

Active and healthy fiber:
Unlike synthetics, Merino is an active fiber that reacts to changes in body temperature. So it helps you stay warm when it's cold and cold when it's hot. Merino wool regulates body temperature and heart rate so that it actually improves sleep.

Odor resistant:
Merino wool can absorb moisture vapor, which means less sweat on the body. Merino wool even absorbs sweat odors, which are then released during washing.

Stain resistant:
Merino fibers have a natural protective outer layer that prevents stains from being absorbed. And because Merino wool tends not to generate static electricity, it attracts less dust and lint.

Fire resistant:
Merino wool is fire retardant and does not melt or adhere to the skin.

Natural barrier to UV rays:
Merino wool is much better at protecting you from UV radiation than most synthetics and cotton.

It is elegant and easy to adapt:
Merino wool has excellent handling and draping. For the wearer, this means clothing that effortlessly, elegantly and beautifully follows the shape of the body. It's lively and flexible, and it can come in a wide variety of textures, fabrics, and weights.
